A former junior and semi-professional hockey player, Steve Latinovich was an outstanding left-winger for the Yeomen hockey team for three seasons. In 1969-70, he contributed to York's undefeated season and OIAA league championship (13 goals and 16 assists in 10 games), and to its consolation title at the CIAU finals. In 1970-71, he scored 15 goals and 12 assists in nine OIAA games. The following season, Latinovich led York with 28 goals and 23 assists in 16 league games and was second in scoring in the newly structured OUAA. He was named both an OUAA and CIAU all-star, was selected a member of the Canadian team for the World Student Games in Plattsburg, New York (a team he led in scoring) and won honours as York's male athlete of the year.
