A graduate of the University of Toronto (BPhE), Larry Nancekivell coached the men's swimming team from 1965 to 1970 during which York won four consecutive OIAA swimming titles. He also coached York's golf teams (1965-1971), squash teams (1965-1969), and the wrestling team (1970-1971). Upon his initiative in 1968-69, York was formally admitted to the OUAA league. The rugby Yeomen finished second in the OUAA that year and again in 1972-73 before winning the OUAA title under his guidance in 1973-74. In 1972, he established the York Yeomen Rugby Club which enhanced the development of the varsity rugby team. Nancekivell left York in 1975 after establishing five interuniversity sports programs in ten years.
