From 1969-72, Sandy Silver competed for the York badminton team. In 1969-70, she and doubles partner, Rosemary Caskey, finished second at the OQWCIA finals; in 1970-71, she and Diane Warriner placed second in women's doubles at the WITCA championship; and in 1971-72, she competed in both doubles and second singles in the newly formed OWIAA. Silver's major sport contribution at York was to the women's volleyball program. In 1972-73 and again in 1974-75 (when she returned as a special student in sociology), she was an outstanding setter and a major factor in York's OWIAA East Division championship in 1974-75. In 1975-76, she became coach of the Yeowomen volleyball team, a role in which she served for four seasons. Her York coaching career culminated with an OWIAA championship in 1978-79 and a second place finish at the CIAU finals.
