In his three seasons as a left-winger with the York Yeomen from 1972 to 1975, Doug Dunsmuir was an outstanding two-way player who scored a total of 51 goals and 65 assists in regular season play. During 1973-74 and 1974-75, the York Yeomen became one of the nation's most winning hockey teams, ranked in the top five among Canadian universities on a weekly basis. Dunsmuir, along with line mates Al Avery (centre) and Tim Ampleford (right wing), dominated the Ontario league and were key to the Yeomen's success those seasons. In 1973-74, Dunsmuir scored 47 points in 19 league games, helping York secure a second-place OUAA East Division finish with a record of 16 wins, two losses and one tie. His greatest season was 1974-75 when he scored 20 goals and 14 assists in 14 league games, leading York to a regular season title. He was selected OUAA first-team all-star, CIAU all-Canadian and York's male athlete of the year.
