Hall of Fame
Doug Wood (BA '96) is one of the most decorated student-athletes ever to don the red and white at York. The most successful pole vaulter in OUAA and CIAU history, he won gold medals at the provincial and national championships in four straight years (1991-94), earned OUAA all-star and CIAU all-Canadian honours in each of those seasons and was named the outstanding athlete of the CIAU championship in 1991 and 1992. He set the CIAU meet record in the pole vault in 1992 (5.65m) and the OUAA meet record in 1994 (5.45m) – records that still stand at both levels – and as a two-time male athlete of the year at York (1992, 1994) is one of only four student-athletes to earn the award more than once. His gold medals helped York win the CIAU team bronze medal in 1993, as well as three straight OUAA team medals. Wood went on to a successful international career, including winning the silver medal at the 1991 Pan American Games and representing Canada at the 1992 Olympic Summer Games in 1992.
