A prominent Canadian industrialist (Noranda Manufacturing Limited and Canada Wire and Cable), Leonard G. Lumbers was a member of York's Board of Governors from 1962 until 1986. He served as a director of several Canadian corporations and was a principal owner of the Toronto Argonaut Football Club. As well as a member of the Board's Property and Building Committee from 1962 until 1986 (and its Chairman in the 1980s), Mr. Lumbers was also deeply involved in the design and construction of York's athletic facilities. In the University's early years, he chaired the Board's Advisory Committee on Athletics and was a loyal York sports supporter.
