In five seasons at York (1974-79), gymnast David Steeper helped the team claim five OUAA and CIAU championship titles. As an individual, he won four gold medals at the nationals and nine at the provincial championships. His finest campaign came in 1977-78, where he claimed five individual gold medals at the OUAA championship.
