A four-time Quebec provincial gymnastics champion, Lise (Arsenault) Goertz competed for the Canada at the 1972 Munich Olympics. From 1972 to 1976, she contributed to three OWIAA team titles for York as well as CWIAU championships in both 1972-73 and 1973-74. She capped her outstanding university career in 1975-76 by placing first all-around at the OWIAA championship (gold medals in floor exercise, balance beam and vault) and second all-around at the CWIAU final (gold medals in floor exercise and balance beam). In 1976, Goertz competed for Canada at the Montreal Olympics before retiring from active competition. Her career included appearances at the world championships, where she was Canada's top competitor. She also won two bronze medals at the Pan Am Games in 197; and placed in the top three at the national championships each year from 1973 through 1976. At York, she was co-winner of the female athlete of the year award in 1973-74.
