A former senior executive with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and the Bank of Nova Scotia, John S. Proctor served in a voluntary capacity as a member of York's Board of Governors from the University's inception until 1983. As Chairman of the Board's Property and Building Committee from 1959 to 1982, he oversaw the design and construction of all York's athletic facilities. He also served as Chairman of the Board and Chancellor of the University. A member of the Canadian Davis Cup team during the 1920's and a Chairman of the Coaching Foundation of Canada, Mr. Proctor was instrumental in bringing the National Tennis Centre to York and was one of the University's most ardent sports supporters.
