Eric Willis spent two stints as the head coach of the York men's soccer program (1977-83, 1987-00) for a combined 19 seasons. The highlight of his first stretch came in 1977, when he led the team to gold medals at the OUAA and CIAU championships, representing York's first banner in a team sport at the national level. During his second stint he coached the team to the CIAU bronze medal on York's home pitch in 1996 and the following year guided the squad to an OUAA silver medal and a fourth-place finish at the national tournament. He also led the team on four playing tours in Europe to play against university teams in England, Wales and France. Willis was a two-time OUAA coach of the year award recipient (1990, 1997) and the CIAU coach of the year in 1997. Throughout his career he coached nine CIAU all-Canadians and 35 OUAA all-stars.
